How to use it

Paper squishies are a cheap, screen-free craft: two paper shapes taped together and stuffed so they squish like a foam toy. These five original designs (cloud, heart, star buddy, smiling donut and happy toast) each print with a front with a face and a matching back.

How to make one: print the page, color both shapes, then cover them with clear packing tape on the colored side so they become slick and sturdy. Cut along the dashed outline, place the shapes back to back, and tape around the edges, leaving a small gap. Stuff with tissue, cotton balls, or cut-up plastic grocery bags, then tape the gap shut. Younger kids will need an adult to help with cutting.

Printing tips

Plain printer paper squishes better than card stock.
Taping before cutting makes the edges much easier to seal.
Markers and colored pencils both work; crayons can smear under tape.
Print at 100% or "Actual size" on US Letter paper (8.5 x 11 in). If you are in a country that uses A4, choose "Fit to page" so nothing gets cut off at the edges.
