How to use it
Holiday spending sneaks up because it is spread across so many categories. This budget planner lists the usual ones (gifts, food, travel, decorations, cards and postage, wrapping, parties, donations, clothing, activities) with planned, actual and difference columns, and blank rows for your own.
Set a total first based on what you can pay in cash, then divide it among the categories. A useful formula at the bottom works out how much to set aside each week until the holidays. Update the actual column after each shopping trip. If one category runs over, take it from another right away instead of hoping it evens out.
Printing tips
- Use last year's bank statements to set realistic numbers.
- Do not forget shipping costs for gifts mailed far away.
- Pair with the gift list for per-person tracking.
- Print at 100% or "Actual size" on US Letter paper (8.5 x 11 in). If you are in a country that uses A4, choose "Fit to page" so nothing gets cut off at the edges.
